The 2024 election was decided last night when former President Donald Trump accused Haitian immigrants of stealing and eating family pets in Springfield, Ohio.

“They’re eating the dogs, the people that came in, they’re eating the cats,” Trump said during an answer to a question about immigration. “They’re eating the pets of the people that live there, and this is what’s happening in our country, and it’s a shame.”

When the debate moderator said, according to the Springfield City Manager, there were no credible reports to that effect, Trump tacitly accused the city manager of lying, saying, “I heard it on TV. People are having their dogs stolen to be used as food.”

This was the “There you go again” moment of the debate. Right up there with, “I knew Jack Kennedy. You are no Jack Kennedy” as a campaign killer.

Of course, people will still vote for him, believing that somewhere an immigrant family is sitting down tonight for a hearty meal of Dog ala Dijon or Kitty Kon Karne…
